Shipman Keeps Lead In Chess Event Here
Walter J. Shipman yesterday gained his third consecutive victory without loss in section one of the championship semi-finals at the Manhattan Chess Club. His opponent was Alexander Kevitz, former titleholder, who erred in repelling a Max Lange attack and resigned after eighteen moves.
Arthur Feuerstein is second in the section with 2-0 and one game adjourned.
William Lombardy, with 2½—½, took the lead in section four after a notable victory over Edward Schwartz. Karl Burger won from Mrs. Gisela K. Gresser to take second place with 2—1.
In section three, the United States champion, Arthur B. Bisguier, won from George Shainswit for a score of 2—0, with one adjourned. The game between Max Pavey, club champion, and Bobby Fischer was postponed. Adjourned games…
Sidney Bernstein handed Saul Wachs his first loss in the Marshall Chess Club's championship final last night. The victory enabled Bernstein to move into a first-place tie with Wachs at 5—2.
Dr. Edward Lasker defeated J. F. Donovan to take fourth place at 4½—2½. The only other winner was W. A. Radspinner, who outplayed Mark Peckar.
Nat Halper, second with 4½—1½, adjourned with Theodore A. Dunst, 4—2. August Rankis, 4—2, adjourned with Stanley Winters and Allen Kaufman adjourned with James Gore.
