Donald Byrne Ties Fischer In U.S. Chess

Cleveland, Aug. 15—Donald Byrne of Ann Arbor, Mich., took another point today in the tenth round of the open championship of the United States Chess Federation. The former Yale star played the black pieces and defeated Orest Popovych of Lakewood, N. J.
Bobby Fischer of Brooklyn was held to a draw by Robert Byrne of Indianapolis, Donald's older brother. Fischer and Donald are tied for first place at 8½—1½.
William F. Addison of San Francisco drew his tenth round game with Anthony Saidy of Fordham University.
Robert Byrne, with a tally of 8-2, was overtaken by the United States champion Arthur B. Bisguier, who downed Kenneth Smith of Dallas. The New York state champion, Anthony E. Santasiere, outplayed Lev Blonarovych of Newark, N. J. Victor Guala, New York, outpointed Bozidar Pehnec of Elkhart, Ind., and Morton Siegel, New York, vanquished J. Theodorovitch of Toronto.
Other New York winners were Paul Brandts, Jack W. Collins, and Dr. Erich W. Marchand, Addison, Saidy, Santasiere, Guala, Siegel, Edmar Mednis and Walter J. Shipman are deadlocked at 7½-2½.
Brandts, Collins, Marchand, Hans Berliner, Atillio Di Camillo, Gerald Fielding and Popovych of Lakewood, N. J. are tied at 7-3.
