Kaufman On Top In National Open
Gains Undisputed Possession of First Place in Chess Tourney at Cleveland

Cleveland, Aug. 9—Allen Kaufman of the Marshall Chess Club, gained undisputed possession of first place in the national open chess championship at the Hotel Manger today as fourth round results were posted.
The New Yorker, a musician, defeated Leslie H. Ault of Cranford, N. J., to run his score to 4-0.
Arthur Bisguier, the United States champion; Paul Brandts, Karl Burger, Bobby Fischer and Edmar Mednis, also New Yorkers, are tied at 3½—½, along with Robert Byrne of Indianapolis and Gilbert J. Ramirez of San Francisco.
Bisguier was held to a draw by Paul Brandts, Donald Byrne of Ann Arbor, who adjourned, after a long match with Saul Wanetick of Philadelphia, is in a 3-0 tie with Hans Berliner of Washington, Atillio Di Camillo of Philadelphia, Richard Krause and Lawrence Lipking, of Cleveland, and Geza Fuster and J. Theodorovitch, or Toronto.
