Young Bobby Fischer (13) of Brooklyn, N.Y., shows promise of becoming one of the world's greatest chess players. In a recent speed tournament at the Manhattan C.C. he was undefeated, finishing ahead of U.S. champion Arthur Bisguier and William Lombardy (who ranked second in the First Canadian Open championship at Montreal last year.)
Hermann Helms, New York, indestructible editor and publisher of American Chess Bulletin since 1904, celebrated his 87th birthday Jan. 5 this year.
Veteran problemist Charles S. Jacobs of Winchester, Mass., who is also an American chess master emeritus, was 83 Jan 13. He is an habitue of Boston's Boylston C.C., and is still interested in problems.
The Swiss championship title has been won by Blau, who scored 6-3 in the national tournament at Thun in 1956. He was also champion of Switzerland in 1953 and 1955.
