National Chess Meet To Start in Cleveland
Cleveland (AP) — A 14-year-old prodigy and a 57-year-old world champion are among the entries in the 58th National Open Chess tournament which opens here Monday.
Robert Fischer of New York, who started to play chess when he was 11 years old and in three years became a top-flight player, and Dr. Max Euwe of New York, a former world champion, are among the 250 players expected.
Top prize in the 12-day tournament is $1,000.
