Manhattan Club Ahead
Leads Marshall Team, 5½-3½, in Metropolitan Chess
The Manhattan Chess Club, the defending team champions, yesterday gained a 5½-3½ lead over the Marshall Chess Club in the Metropolitan Chess League championships. Four of the thirteen games were adjourned.
The host team won four of the games outright against two for the Marshall Club. Three games were drawn.
Daniel Beninson began the match with a victory for the Manhattans. This was offset by Anthony Santasiere, New York State champion, who scored victory for the challengers.
William Lombardy, Walter J. Shipman and Bobby Fischer also gained triumphs for the Manhattan Club. Saul Wachs was the only other Marshall Club winner.
