Chess Tournament Planned At Dallas
Dallas (AP) — Preparations are fast taking shape for the Dallas International Chess Tournament which will draw master players from throughout the world.
The tournament will mark the centennial of international chess in the United States.
Emile Z. Gulutin, president of the Dallas International Chess Tournaments, Inc., says it will put the Texas city forever in chess history, since past tournaments are studied by exacting chess players.
The tournament will be held from Nov. 30 to Dec. 18 in a large downtown hotel. Eight master players will compete, including Daniel Yanofsky of Canada, Bent Larsen of Denmark, Laszlo Szabo of Hungary, Svetozar Gligoric or Yugoslavia, Gideon Stahlberg of Sweden, Miguel Najdorf of Argentina, Samuel Reshevsky of New York City and Fridrik Olafsson of Iceland.
First alternate will be Arturo Pomar of Spain and the 14-year-old boy wonder of chess, Bobby Fischer of New York City, will be second alternate.
Large wallboards will be erected for the tournament so spectators may watch each move. A commentator will explain the moves.
