Arthur Bisguier received a surprise when he returned to New York from the U.S.A. Open at Cleveland to learn that in the interval he had been shorn of the title when a mistake was discovered in calculating the tie-breaking system. The cash prizes, however, are awarded on the earned point scores so that he and Fischer divided evenly the $1,500 total for 1st and 2nd.
