Summer Events
Inasmuch as this column did not appear during the summer months a brief review of major tournament activity follows: Milwaukee, July 4-7…Donald Byrne, former U.S. Open Champion, topped the 106 player field in the New Western Open, Larry Evans second; Cleveland, August 12-22…U.S. Junior Champion Bobby Fischer, 14, became the youngest player to ever win the U.S. Open. A report just received indicates that William Lombardy of New York has just won the world's Junior Championship (21 and under) with a perfect 11-0 score.
