Lessing J. Rosenwald Trophy: Reshevsky Favored, but Fischer, Lombardy and Kalme add to Difficulties
Reshevsky regained his title the third year and is favored again in this year's event, which has been renamed the U.S. Championship for the Lessing J. Rosenwald Trophy. However, some of the younger players, notably U.S. Open and U.S. Junior champion Bobby Fischer, World Junior Champion Bill Lombardy, and Charles Kalme will add to the veteran's difficulties in this country's strongest tournament test. Fourteen players have been named as eligible for the event: Berliner, Bisguier, Robert Byrne, Denker, Evans, Feuerstein, Fischer, Kramer, Lombardy, Mednis, Reshevsky, Seidman, Sherwin, Turner.
Lombardy, incidentally, is being considered for rating as international grandmaster, top rating for upper echelon players.
