Alert Boy, 14, Wins Chess Championship
Cleveland (AP)—When tournament directors Friday night declared defending champion Arthur B. Bisguier, 26, of New York the winner of the U.S. Chess Federation's open tournament, 14-year-old Bobby Fischer protested.
Tournament officials spent an hour checking the complicated chess scoring system, reversed their decision and declared Fischer the new champion. He is the youngest player ever to win.
